Talaris Research Institute - Dedicated to discovering how children think, feel and learn. From birth to age five, a child observes, experiments, and begins to understand the world — a learning experience unmatched by any other. Scientific studies are revolutionizing our ideas about how a child's mind and brain develop. These ideas have the potential to change the way we parent our children and how we educate people of any age. It is our goal to connect relevant research findings to practical applications — combining the science of learning with the practice of learning. After careful analysis, we transform research into useful tools and information for parents, caregivers, educators, healthcare providers, and the corporate community.

The Center for Children with Special Needs was formed in 1998 as a program of Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. The Center focuses on improving systems of care for children with special needs through education, research and evaluation. Our work impacts policy, quality of care, education and family partnerships in health care. Children with special health care needs have chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions. It is estimated that between 12 and 13% of US children have special needs.
