Worship and Music
Worship is an important time each week to come together and praise God; to speak, sing, and share about how powerful and good God is. It is also a time to learn more about God, and how he loves us, and thank him for the many ways he cares for us. Our desire is that through worship experiences, all people might draw closer to God.
Worship is at the heart of our relationship with God, both as individuals and a community of people who believe in him. In worship we focus on God: on hearing Bible verses and a message based on the Bible, on prayer, and on the sacraments of baptism and communion. Of course individual Christians can do many of these things in private. However in worship we come together to experience God as a community.
Our first worship service has a multi-instrument band format, popular Christian music or praise music, and an informal atmosphere. Our second worship service has a traditional format, with hymns, organ music, a choir, and a classical atmosphere. We also have special worship services during the year, including a service of healing and wholeness, and special services during the holidays.
The Worship Team is responsible for worship services at First Pres, as well as several worship-related activities including ushers, special music, banners, and all-church decorating.
