Memorial Lectures

The Memorial Lecture Series began as an effort to introduce people to some of the church’s thinkers and leaders of today.  The primary purpose was to enhance and inform the life that we share as a Christian community.    A typical series of Memorial Lectures includes three or four talks, focused on a single topic, over a weekend.  The guest speaker’s costs are supported by funds donated in memory of friends and relatives who have passed away (hence the title), and by free-will offerings.  We usually have sufficient support for a series of Memorial Lectures every few years.

Previous Memorial Lecture topics have included “A Look at the Gospel According to Matthew,” The Relationship Between Science and the Christian Faith,” “Studies in the Gospel of John,” answers to the question “Is Jesus Christ the Only Savior,” “Christian Community: What the Past Can Teach us,” “Sounding the Depths: Discovering Faith Through Music,” and “Jesus as Theologian.”  The most recent Memorial Lecturer was Dr. Dale Bruner, Professor Emeritus of Religion at Whitworth University, who spoke on the “Good News about Grace” in October 2009.

The 2011 Memorial Lecture below is free, a freewill offering will be collected.  Childcare is provided at all sessions.  If you have questions, please call 582-9537.
